Camp Big Mac was established in 1952 in reaction to the official Boy Scout policy of not allowing women to use BSA facilities. Currently there is a Mess Hall, 4 cabins, an open pavilion and several recreational structures spread across over 45 acres with a sizeable wilderness area. The camp is open to all youth groups to use, though it is used primarily by the Boy Scouts. The camp and Foundation get their name from Claude MacDonald, a former Alexandria City police officer. His nickname was Big Mac, so when he donated the first $500 in 1952, the camp was named in his honor(many years before the MacDonald's restaurant sold its first Big Mac.) The Claude MacDonald Foundation is a non-profit organization chartered by the state of Virginia, there are around 20 voting members including the President, Vice-President and Camp Director. Please make reservations in advance to the Camp Director, we fill up fast.Below are some pictures of the camp, more will follow.
